So you think you want to be a life coach?

an online course guaranteed to help you decide or your money back

Welcome to my on-line course "So you think you want to be a life coach?"

I am very excited that you are thinking about becoming a Life Coach, as the field of Life coaching is one of the fastest growing industries in The United States. According to Market Research, growth projections for the life coaching industry are an estimated 6.7% per year with coaching revenue reaching $1.34 billion by 2022.

Thats the good news, but the bad news is that coaching is a very competitive career field where anyone and everyone with access to a website and business cards are marketing themselves as Life Coaches. Unfortunately, many are being drawn into the Life Coaching field by on-line schools that promise a six figure income upon graduation.

All this makes it extremely difficult to sort through the myriad of information, leaving the would be coach with a variety of daunting yet unanswered questions such as:

  • What exactly is a Life Coach and why do people hire them?
  • What is the difference between a coach and mentor?
  • How do I determine the appropriate coaching niche?
  • Do I have the right personality to be a coach?
  • How much do coaches normally earn and how should I set my fees?
  • What are the basic coaching skills and how difficult are they to learn?
  • What are the best ways to market myself as a coach?
  • What are the education requirements to be a coach and how do I choose a school?

Why I created this course

When I was first thinking about becoming a coach I had dozens of questions similar to the ones above. Although I had enough exposure to coaching to know that it was a career option worth pursuing, I had no idea where to begin. Unfortunately short of enrolling in an expensive course, there were not a lot of resources available to find answers.

Consequently, I wasted a lot of time and money in the first year doing my own research trying to locate answers before finally enrolling in an on-line program. If there had only been a course that could answer my questions about coaching before I fully committed to it, I would have gladly purchased it as it would have saved me a lot of time and money.

That is why I created this coaching course.

I knew that if I was looking for answers to my questions before committing fully to a career in coaching, then certainly there must be hundreds or possibly thousands of other would be coaches desiring the same. So In 2018 I created my initial coaching course in Pittsburgh.

In 2020 in response to the isolating impact of the Covid-19 virus I decided to take the class on-line in order to serve the students who were unable to finish the live classes, and also open the course up to other would be coaches scattered across the globe who also were looking for answers. One former student writes:

It is always so enjoyable to be taught by someone who truly takes great pleasure in their craft. I found the life coaching course given by Chuck Gohn to be a well-organized and well-presented overview of what coaching is and is not. He condensed the lessons down into usable nuggets, explaining the core competencies and how they work well enough that we were able to coach people. He was generous with his time, information, and encouragement. My only disappointment is that it had to end!

Sign me up. I really enjoyed your approach to teaching the live class and looking forward to future offerings. As a Licensed Professional Counselor I found your approach to teaching the foundations and fundamental principles thorough but easy to understand, follow, and carry out in life. Not only did you touch upon the skills necessary, but you discussed business issues as well.

How is this course structured?

There are a lot of ways to structure an on-line course but in a nutshell I designed this course in a manner that would enable each participant to have the greatest opportunity for success. Knowing that each person has his or her own learning style, I incorporated a variety of learning components that maximize the learning experience for all.

Video Curriculum

The core component of this course is the video curriculum that is presented by myself. Each lesson lasts from 10-15 minutes, is accessible 24 hours a day / 7 days a week, and can be watched at your own pace and as many times as you like. These lessons are a combination of short lectures, Powerpoint slides, videos, resources, and worksheets that can be freely used by each participant in his or her own coaching business. The following is the class curriculum:

In addition to the core curriculum this course also includes:

Periodic Zoom Meet-ups and Real-time Coaching Practice

In addition to the video curriculum each student will have free access to a live Zoom Meet-ups hosted by myself. These meet-ups are meant to provide a safe space for students to ask questions about the course content or about any coaching related topic. In addition, the meet-ups will provide additional training, and opportunities to practice their coaching skills on each other. I will also invite "guest coaches" into the meet-up in order to share his or her own coaching journey as well as their specific coaching niche.
